Terra Stone
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Member
Terra Stone is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked as an outreach social worker in Rensselaer County, New York, since 2011. In this role, she assists individuals experiencing homelessness in finding stable housing and supports people living with mental health and substance use disorders as they begin their journeys toward stability, recovery, and wellness.
Since 2022, Terra has also volunteered with the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center, where she has witnessed firsthand the physical, emotional, and social benefits of therapeutic interactions with horses.
Vermont Community Farm’s mission resonates deeply with Terra because of its commitment to inclusion and its practical, whole-person approach to mental and physical well-being through mindfulness, nature, community, and therapeutic animals—all things she knows and loves. As a board member, Terra hopes to contribute her professional experience, formative ideas, financial support, and hands-on effort to help Vermont Community Farm grow into an affordable, welcoming, and inclusive wellness resource that is accessible to people of all abilities and backgrounds.
Terra’s commitment to this work is also deeply personal. Her son was diagnosed with autism at age three and obsessive-compulsive disorder at age nine. When he was very young, Terra was told that he might never speak. At the recommendation of someone who recognized the potential benefits of equine-assisted services, she introduced him to hippotherapy. That decision marked the beginning of a joyful and transformative healing journey.
Through regular interaction with therapy horses and compassionate instructors, Terra watched her son thrive. Today, he enthusiastically talks with his horse and his PATH International instructor—so much so that Terra sometimes finds herself marveling that this is the same child she was once told might never speak. His remarkable growth has given Terra a profound appreciation for therapeutic riding programs and inspires her commitment to helping Vermont Community Farm create similarly meaningful opportunities for other individuals and families.
